Transpiration through hydrogels

چکیده

We present experiments and theory relating to transpiration through unrestrained hydrogel beads in contact with a water reservoir below air above. Experimentally, we find that saturated shrink until steady state is reached which flows continuously the beads. The size of bead sensitive evaporation rate, depends on relative humidity speed surrounding air, pressure head imposed by fluid reservoir. Specifically, decreases increasing or rate. Our one-dimensional model proposes transport driven gradients osmotic pressure, caused polymer concentration correspond swelling. If rate changes, adjustment this gradient requires change shape size. Smaller have larger drive higher rates can draw against heads.

Characterization of particle translocation through mucin hydrogels.

Biological functional entities surround themselves with selective barriers that control the passage of certain classes of macromolecules while rejecting others. A prominent example of such a selective permeability barrier is given by mucus. Mucus is a biopolymer-based hydrogel that lines all wet epithelial surfaces of the human body. It regulates the uptake of nutrients from our gastrointestina...

Mechanical Characteristics of SPG-178 Hydrogels: Optimizing Viscoelastic Properties through Microrheology and Response Surface Methodology

Background: Self-assembling peptides (SApeptides) have growing applications in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. The application of SApeptide-based hydrogels depends strongly on their viscoelastic properties. Optimizing the properties is of importance in tuning the characteristics of the hydrogels for a variety of applications. Methods: In this study, we employed statistical modelin...

Update on Transpiration and Isotopes Heavy Water Fractionation during Transpiration

A small proportion of water molecules contain the heavier isotopes of hydrogen and oxygen. There is a tendency for these heavier molecules of water to accumulate in leaves during transpiration. This has several interesting repercussions, including effects on the isotopic composition of organic matter, and of atmospheric water vapor, carbon dioxide, and oxygen. In turn, these effects aid tempora...

Stimuli-Responsive Dipeptide-Protein Hydrogels through Schiff Base Coassembly.

Different from the conventional irreversible covalent conjugations, a simple and efficient dynamic Schiff base covalent assembly is developed to construct the stable and smart dipeptide-protein hydrogels under mild conditions. Diphenylalanine-hemoglobin hydrogel is chosen to investigate the gelation formation process and mechanism. It is found that such assembled dipeptide-protein hydrogels are...
